A working meeting was held on 21 March between the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) officials in preparation for the workshop to present the implementation phase of Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) funding for Cape Verde, which covers activities related to the establishment, operation and maintenance of national observation networks to meet the requirements of Global Basic Observing Network (GBON) regulations.
The aim of the project, in which IPMA is a technical partner, is to enable the country to contribute local data in order to bridge the gap in meteorological and climate observations, strengthening the institutional (technical and technological) capacity of Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia e Geofísica (INMG), and Cape Verde in general, with a view to meeting the requirements of the GBON network, of the World Weather Watch Programme.
The meeting reaffirmed IPMA's commitment to the success of the project and the partnership with UNEP and expressed its willingness to strengthen this collaboration in Cape Verde and other countries, particularly in the context of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
