UPCAST is a R&D project that aims to improve information management and situational awareness in the advent of CBRN events. The platform provided by UPCAST allows its users to make informed decisions based on several layers of information. This real-time data is gathered by operatives in the field and reference laboratories and is complemented by platform-generated data due to its analytical capability.

Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) events are high risk scenarios that can cause deaths, leave long lasting effectson populations and the environment or cause socio-economic downfall. These events can easily cross borders and, in some cases, have an effect in neighbouring countries. For this reason, when they occur, the response has to be fast, precise, efficient and accountable to all parties involved.

The UPCAST Platform is the result of a tight collaboration and partnership within its consortium. To support this project an advisory board was formed by the following national entities: ANPC, PSP, GNR, Hospital Curry Cabral, DGS, APA and RSB-Lisboa. (http://upcast.tekever.com/intro).
