The month of July 2016 was characterized, in Portugal, by very high values of air temperature, and the 2nd hottest July since 1931 with an average value of the average air temperature of 24.33 °C; much higher than the average value in the period 1971-2000, with an anomaly of +2.16 °C (previous highest value in 1989 of 24.63 °C). The average maximum temperature, 32.19 °C was much higher than the normal value (+3.47 °C), the highest value since 1931 (previous highest value in 2010 of 31.75 °C). The average air temperature, 16:47 °C was also higher than the average value (+0.85 °C) and corresponds to the 8th highest value since 1931 (previous highest value in 1989, 17:54 °C).
