Continental Portugal in June recorded values of air temperature (maximum, average and minimum) above the 1971-2000 normal.
Mean values of maximum, average and minimum temperature were 26.60°C, 20.32°C and 14.3ºC, with anomalies of +1.24°C, +0.89°C and +0.54°C above normal.
It should be noted the 25th and 27th, which recorded very high temperature values, even above 40°C in the South and interior north and center, due to a mass of very hot and dry air.
The average amount of precipitation (14.0mm) in Portugal was lower than the average 1971-2000 (32.2mm), we can classify this month as dry to extremely dry. With the exception of Minho and Douro Litoral which was normal.
The drought situation remains, verifying by the end of June an increase towards the end of May in particular in the regions of Central and South. Thus, on June 30, 2012, 56% of the territory is under extreme drought, 24% of the territory in severe drought, 16% in moderate drought and 4% in mild drought.
