As part of the Joint Workshop on Marine Sciences IPMA - IMR, promoted within the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR), a seminar was held on the 5th of november at IPMA Algés, which brought together experts from different research areas from the two institutions.
The event was attended by the Deputy Head of Mission of the Norwegian Embassy in Portugal, Karina Asbjørnsen, who highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the maritime domain. This was followed by speeches by IPMA’s president, professor José Guerreiro, and IMR’s Chief Executive Officer, professor Nils Gunnar Kvamstø, who presented their respective institutes and listed the main projects under way.
There was also an important set of interventions by researchers, namely on the topics of Atlantic observation systems, marine gene banks - blue biobanks, aquaculture, seafood upgrading and food safety, planning of oceanographic campaigns and research vessels management, geophysical characterization and monitoring for offshore wind energy installation.
Supported by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, through EEA Grants, the “Joint Workshop on Marine Sciences IPMA - IMR” included a series of activities with researchers from both institutions until November 7th, as the visit to IPMA’s Algés laboratories, Research Vessel Mário Ruivo and Aquaculture Research Station in Olhão (EPPO).
