During the celebration of Civil Protection day, on 1st March 2016, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) was been awarded by the National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC), with protection and rescue merit medal, gold degree, orange level, by the role played in the national civil protection system, in particular with activities in the areas of weather forecasting, weather watch, seismic risk and tsunamis, distinguishing acts of prestigious collaboration with the authorities in the direction and coordination of the affected resources and actions of protection and rescue.
The award was given by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Constança Urbano de Sousa, to the member of the governing board of the IPMA, Nuno Lourenço, representing the president of the governing board of the IPMA, Miguel Miranda.
The IPMA welcomes the public recognition of the activities undertaken by its staff to better serve the population, as part of its duties and responsibilities.
