Promotion of a sustainable growth of aquaculture in Portugal

The Aquaculture Space has the promotion of a sustainable growth of aquaculture in Portugal as main strategy, thereby taking into account five key principles:
- The sustainable exploitation of resources through the utilization of adequate practices for the protection of the environment;
- The use of natural resources, particularly areas in open sea with aquaculture potential, and the reutilization of inactive areas in estuaries and wetlands;
- The institutional involvement, namely concerning the mobilization of administrative structures, resources within the scope of research and development, as well as stimulus to the private investment;
- The reinforcement of consumer confidence on the basis of the food quality and safety of the aquaculture products;
- The preservation and development of employment and life quality.
