2015-10-28 (IPMA)
The “2nd ALADIN Forecasters Meeting” has occured at IPMA during the 21-23 October. This was the second version of the annual meeting of the International Project ALADIN, where Portugal is a partner through IPMA, dedicated to the exchange between its modeler's community and the forecasters which are the more direct users' group of its regional atmospheric models. This year's topic was the interpretation of the forecasting products produced by convective-permiting ensembles. The intrinsic stochastic nature of the clouds and of the microphysics soved by these models obliges to the adoption of a more probabilistic and less determinisc sense when dealing with such products and the spatial variation on a probabilistic chart drives us now to a renewed interpretation.
The ALADIN Program Manager, Piet Termonia, as well as experts on atmospheric numerical weather prediction and the forecasters' national delegations of 12 countries among all the members of the ALADIN consortium, were present at this meeting.
