After the visit of researchers from the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR) to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) in November, as part of the “Joint Workshop on Marine Sciences IPMA - IMR”, it was considered beneficial to give continuity to the initiative, sending a delegation to Norway on the 12th and 13th of March.
With the aim of encouraging collaboration between these two similar institutions in the area of marine research, the focus was on developing a joint work program for the next biennium, based on themes of common interest previously identified, in order to explore existing competencies and potential synergies.
The ocean's role in renewable energy, food and nutrition security, human health, and supporting a wide range of coastal activities depends on the conservation and sustainable use of ocean biodiversity. In this sense, this bilateral initiative constitutes a great opportunity to promote research in priority scientific areas, which makes new products and services available to society.
Funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, through the EEA Grants Bilateral Relations Fund program, this visit is expected to boost the long-standing cooperation between IPMA and IMR in the maritime area.
