As part of the “Joint Workshop on Marine Sciences IPMA - IMR”, promoted within the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR), experts from different areas of research from the two institutions met on the 12th and 13th of March in Bergen, Norway, following on from the bilateral initiative held in November, in Algés.
After the visit to the IPMA Research Pole in Algés and the Aquaculture Research Station in Olhão (EPPO), in November 2024, during which discussions were initiated on scientific areas identified as of common interest, namely marine biobanks, ocean observing systems, aquaculture, seafood upgrading, food security and nutrition, oceanographic campaigns and research vessels management and baseline studies for the development of Offshore Wind Energy.
This bilateral initiative was financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, through the EEA Grants Bilateral Relations Fund program, and resulted in two meetings between the institutions, contributing to the discussion, planning and scheduling of collaborative actions defined by the work teams.
The March encounter included an initial session to present the work teams and the respective development of research in scientific areas of common interest, bilateral meetings and a visit to the IMR laboratories.
