EMSO Conference - Oceans
12-14 february | IPMA Participation
IPMA attended, between February 12 and 14, the "EMSO Conference - preparing for UN Decade of Ocean Science", held in Athens, Greece.
The meeting brought together more than 50 representatives from the most varied areas of the international marine science community, willing to work together to respond to the ambitious United Nations challenge "2021-2030 Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development", and also with the aim of supporting the European mission "Healthy Oceans, Seas, Coastal and Inland Waters".
For 2 days the discussion focused on the importance of observing the oceans as a way of gathering vital information to understand the impact of global change on the oceans and find solutions to environmental and economic challenges.
IPMA's participation was ensured by the "regional team leader" of the project in Portugal (EMSO - PT) Zuzia Stroynowski and by the coordinator of the Institute's research vessel unit, Mafalda Carapuço.
The event was organized by the "EMSO-ERIC, European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water-column Observatory Research Infrastructure Consortium".
