Mid Term Drought Bulletin
2023-04-21 (IPMA)
IPMA publishes the updated information regarding the meteorological drought registered in Mainland Portugal until April 15, 2023, in the publication of the mid term bulletin.
In summary, the main indicators in Temperature and Precipitation stand out:
- Maximum air temperature almost always above the monthly average value (Fig. 1);
- Minimum temperature with values close to the monthly average;
- Heat wave between the 2nd and the 11th of April in about 50% of the meteorological stations of IPMA´s network (Fig. 2); it covered a large part of the territory, with the exception of the North and Center coast and the Algarve;
- Precipitation values much lower than normal, throughout the territory (Fig 3.); in the southern region there was no precipitation;
- More significant precipitation values only on the 1st, 12th and 14th and essentially in the Minho and Douro Litoral region.
The drought mid-term bulletin, shown below, contains information on:
- Characterization of the current situation;
- Evolution scenarios until the end of the month;
- Monthly forecast from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF).
