IPMA´s new President, Professor José Guerreiro, wich took office today, June 1, 2023, was until now professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL).
José Ângelo Guerreiro da Silva, was born in Lisbon in 1958, holds a degree in Biology and a PhD in Ecology and Biosystematics from FCUL, Assistant Professor, with Aggregation in Marine Sciences, in the Department of Animal Biology of this University.
Among his main areas of interest, we highlight the policy and governance of the environment and the sea, nature conservation and environmental management.
In terms of political functions, between 1995 and 2007, he held various high-level public functions, namely: Secretary of State for the Environment of the XIII Constitutional Government (under the tutelage of the Institute of Meteorology, Institute for Nature Conservation and Institute for Environmental Promotion) , General Director for the Environment and President of the Institute for Environmental Promotion. He currently performs public functions in advisory bodies of the Portuguese State and Public Associations, namely: in the National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development, by indication of the National Council of Professional Orders (since 2001) and National Council of the Order of Biologists (since 2008, position permanent, inherently, in the capacity of ex-Chairman).
