The project 3DPARE – Artificial Reef 3D Printing for Atlantic Area, funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, is a collaboration between several institutions and companies belonging to four European countries (France, Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom), in which IPMA is a partner.
This project, that started in November 2017 and will finish in June 2022, aims to develop innovative artificial reefs as a contribution for the sustainable management of the marine ecosystems. Since the reef habitat plays an important role in the protection or recovering of natural resources, these 3D artificial reefs were shaped and built by large-scale 3D printing resistant and bio-receptive materials.
Their behavior in the marine environment will be assessed and the results will demonstrate the feasibility of a promising technique for ecosystem services valuation.
