Azores Extended Forecast Bulletin now available

The extended forecast bulletin is now available for the Azores archipelago and can be found on IPMA webpage and on our Facebook page (facebook.com/ipma.pt)
The extended forecast is structured in one week periods, from Monday to Sunday, and is presented in a statistical view, in comparison with the model climatology. It includes information on temperature anomalies in relation to average weekly values and precipitation anomalies in relation to accumulated weekly values.
The extended forecast elaborated by IPMA, which will be carried out once a week on Friday, is based on the ECMWF global model (“European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts”), which has been showing a better performance in the results for the territory of the archipelago. Even so, its use must be made with reservations, since from the second week there is a clear decrease in the quality of forecasting for large-scale weather patterns, such that the error of the forecast may be similar to the error of a forecast based on a climatological average.
