2015-10-23 (IPMA)
Workshop, dedicated to the identification and monitoring of drought situations, particularly through the use of satellite-based indices, will take place on November 23, in the auditorium of IPMA.
The goal of this initiative is to promote the dissemination and discussion of different applications of satellite-based vegetations indices. This event will be attended by Dr. Felix Kogan, scientist from NOAA/NESDIS, expert in satellite-based products and their applications for monitoring and state of vegetation, namely, VHI (Vegetation Health Index - http://www.star. nesdis.noaa.gov/smcd/emb/vci/VH/).
VHI is widely used for environmental applications, especially for drought detection and monitoring. So as VHI is implementing in IPMA, this workshop is intended to present the first results of the application of this index in Portugal and analyze the advantages of its use.
Entities and experts, which work, investigate or have an interest in droughts study and in remote sensing applications for environmental problems, are invited to participate.
The event will take place on November 23, between 9h30am and 16h30m in the auditorium of headquarters of the IPMA. (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, Rua C do Aeroporto, 1749-077 Lisboa).
