The automatic station at Amareleja (Figure 1) was fully recondicioned and is now fully functioning, with real time data streaming to the IPMA website.
Following several episodes of theft and vandalism, the station is now installed in a terrain belonging to “Águas Públicas do Alentejo”.
IPMA acknowledges the local authorities of the Parish of Amareleja and “Águas Públicas do Alentejo”, for their support and collaboration in the relocation and installation of the station. Amareleja has an icon status among our stations, having recorded the highest ever maximum temperature in Portugal (47.4 °C at 1st August 2003).
The old Classical Meteorological Station was also relocated to a fallow land (Park of Ferrarias), with the cooperation of the local authorities (Figure 2). The main objective of this station is pedagogical, especially devoted to school visits.
