Very high maximum and minimum temperatures occurred between 11^th and 16^th June, including tropical nights (minimum temperature > 20 °C) in some locations. Some stations in the Portuguese mainland experienced a heat wave.

The synoptic situation displayed an easterly flow over the Portuguese mainland, associated, from 12^th June, to a high pressure centre localized near the British Isles and, from 14^th June, a low centered in the south of the Iberian Peninsula.
