Very high maximum and minimum temperatures occurred between 11th and 16th June, including tropical nights (minimum temperature > 20 °C) in some locations. Some stations in the Portuguese mainland experienced a heat wave.
The synoptic situation displayed an easterly flow over the Portuguese mainland, associated, from 12th June, to a high pressure centre localized near the British Isles and, from 14th June, a low centered in the south of the Iberian Peninsula.
The decrease in temperature started at the southern coast on the 16th, signalling a cooling and a disappearance of the heat wave, but values close to 30ºC will be found at the North East and Beira Alta until 20th June.
