Marta Rufino, a CIIMAR/IPMA researcher, was invited by the National Autonomous University of Mexico to teach two courses on statistics using R at their facilities in Yucatán in January 2013. The courses,"Experimental design and data analysis using R" (80 hours) and "Introduction to geometric morphometry" (40 hours), are part of the post-graduate program in Marine Sciences and Limnology and were taught together with Dra. Matié Mascaró. This very successful visit also served to work on manuscripts for future publication and to establish new partnerships with the Mexican research group.
Marta Rufino obtained her first degree from the University of Lisbon, followed by a PhD on marine fisheries hosted by the University of North Wales, School of Ocean Sciences, Bangor and the “Institut de Ciencies del Mar de Barcelona”, Spain (ICM-SCIC). As a CIMAR LA auxiliary researcher of CIIMAR she is currently a member of the Paleoceanography team in the Geology and Marine Georesources Division of IPMA (“Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera”) in Lisbon. She has been working on statistical analysis and modelling for the past 10 years, in particular on spatial analysis and geometric morphometric methods.
