Collaboration Project Program EUMETNET SURFMAR IPMA, Météo-France and Transinsular

During 15-17 May, IPMA participated on the instalation of the first automatic weather station (BAROS S-AWS) on-board of a portuguese ship - "Sete Cidades", from Transinsular (Grupo E.T.E) - as part of the European programme "EUMETNET Surface Marine Programme (E-SURFMAR).

The new wether station will enable the acquisition of meteorological surface data en route between the Portuguese Mainland and the Archipelagos of Madeira and Azores, as well as a prompt data dissemination through the Global Telecommunication System (GTS). The collaboration of the shipowner Transinsular, in particular its technical staff and crew, together with the E-SURFMAR and IPMA personnel, enabled a swift installation and early data availability.
